Steven H. Temares has been the Chief Executive Officer of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. since 2003 and has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 1999.  He joined the Company in 1992.  During his 23 years at Bed Bath & Beyond, Mr. Temares has served in many leadership roles including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 1997 to 1999, President and Chief Operating Officer from 1999 to 2003, and then President and Chief Executive Officer from 2003 to 2006.  In these roles, he has helped to expand the Company to a retailer which operates under the names Bed Bath & Beyond, Christmas Tree Shops, Christmas Tree Shops andThat! or andThat!, Harmon or Harmon Face Values, buybuy BABY and World Market, Cost Plus World Market or Cost Plus. The Company also operates Linen Holdings, a provider of a variety of textile products, amenities and other goods to institutional customers in the hospitality, cruise line, food service, healthcare and other industries. Additionally, the Company is a partner in a joint venture which operates five retail stores in Mexico under the name Bed Bath & Beyond.

Mr. Temares was born in the Bronx and grew up in Paramus, New Jersey.  He graduated Paramus High School in 1976 and then studied economics and philosophy at Rutgers.  He went on to earn his law degree from University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1983.  Prior to joining Bed Bath & Beyond, he practiced real estate law.

Mr. Temares believes strongly in the importance of education and has served on the Board of Overseers at Rutgers since 2008.  He is also on the Parents Council at Lehigh University and at Yale University.  He is a member of the Dean’s Council for the school of Arts and Sciences at Lehigh.  In 2012, the Temares family endowed a faculty position at Rutgers University to establish a Director of the school’s Brain Health Institute in honor of his wife’s parents, Murray and Charlotte Strongwater.  In addition, the Temares Family has endowed scholarships at Yale University and The University of Pennsylvania Law School in honor of Steven’s parents.     

Steven’s mother, Sandy, resides in Washington Township, New Jersey and his sister, Anita and her husband Bob, reside in Paramus.  Steven and his wife Amy are proud parents of three daughters, Jacklyn 22, Dani 19 and Maddie 16.
